It might be a good idea to add a watchdog device. While it wouldn't completely prevent VM freezes, especially not on Windows, and can be trivially bypassed, it should do a pretty good job at preventing accidental freezes (e.g. OOM) on Linux.

Libvirt's default watchdog device (for the q35 machine type anyway, which is probably what's being used) is itco, which isn't the best. They recommend i6300esb, which should work better than that.
